MIA Accred Team Image
August, 2007

Dear Friends,

We are proud to say that after a rigorous process, Great Lakes Granite & Marble has earned the designation of "Accredited Natural Stone Fabricator" from the Marble Institute of America (MIA).

To become "Accredited", Great Lakes Granite & Marble successfully completed a three-phase application.  Phase one required meeting all 10 standards as laid out by the MIA Accreditation Commission like screening various business related documents, meeting necessary insurance and tax requirements, and successfully passing a surprise or voluntary visit by OSHA, making sure we are compliant with federal and state health and safety regulations. Phase two required the company’s qualifying agent to pass a 200 multiple choice question test, examining the applicant’s knowledge and application of material usage, installation, fabrication, restoration, care and maintenance, administration, legal/contracts, and jobsite and shop safety. The third phase was a comprehensive site visit, which included a facility review, document review, and various installation site visits.

Great Lakes Granite and Marble, a residential natural stone contractor that has been serving the metro Detroit area since 1989, is the first company in Michigan and the first granite shop headed by a past MIA president to attain accreditation. Currently, only four Natural Stone Fabricators in North America have achieved accreditation.

For over 60 years the Marble Institute of America has been the World's leading information resource and advocate for the natural dimension stone industry. MIA members include marble, granite, limestone, sandstone, and other natural stone producers, quarries, fabricators, installers, distributors, and contractors around the world.  The purpose of the MIA’s accreditation program is to provide excellence in the natural stone industry and recognize companies demonstrating compliance with quality standards, so that the public values, has access to, and benefits from consistent, competent, and safe fabrication, installation and maintenance of natural stone.
